The panelists' comments:
“Super club … this is an impressive golf course … Interesting, subtle, well-designed traditional golf course. Not as extreme or difficult as some other Robert Trent Jones courses, but certainly birdie-resistant … Remarkably playable despite the obvious difficulty of the terrain. Nearly every hole is a treat, with a minimum of blind shots despite the 200-foot elevation changes. The nature of the terrain and speed and contour of greens require intelligence and experience to negotiate.”
“The real danger comes in the greens … Large greens with lots of undulations and cupping positions guarded by bunkers … Much of the difference between a 72 and a 78 will be caused by 5- to 10-foot putts. Fairways provide generous landing areas for tee shots. Fairways have lots of contour and weave in and out, which seems to be typical of Trent Jones courses … Fairways are wide and greens allow run-ups as well as provide ample opportunity for up-and-downs. Bailout areas are everywhere, to the point of having sub-bailout areas … Best hole: Fourth, a 601-yard par-five that keeps bending to the left with a pond in front of the green. Except for No. 4, the par-5s are fairly short. But the par-4s were long … A wide assortment of holes, especially the devilish par-5 fourth … Trees are not a factor, but environmentally-protected areas come into play on most holes … Condition of course was outstanding without a suggestion of anything but pure grass on fairways and greens.”
“Definitely a charming country club in a competitive golf neighborhood … Club has a corporate membership, very few players on the course. The day I played, there were six cars in the parking lot.”
